COST 623-WG3 meeting on:

Soil erosion data for prediction and control of land degradation

Brussels 18-19 November, 1999

A COST 623-WG3 meeting is planned to be held at Brussels, November 18-19^th. The meeting will start Thursday 18^th of November in the afternoon and will finish Friday 19^th November at noon. A COST 623-MC meeting will be held in the afternoon of the same day (Friday).

The objectives of the COST 623-WG3 meeting will be the following:

• Present-day available data-sets, an inventory of their geographical distribution, their accessibility.

• Types of soil erosion data present, extent to which the data can be integrated for prediction and control of soil erosion risk.

The meeting will be divided into 4 topics corresponding to 4 major categories of data related to soil erosion.

1. General data (topographic, land use, etc.)
2. Meteorological data
3. Soil data
4. Land management and policy data

Each topic will be introduced by a speaker, followed by discussion and conclusions. Soil erosion data are subdivided to: (a) water erosion, (b) wind erosion, (c) snow melt erosion, and (d) tillage erosion. For each category of data, tables will be prepared including the following:

• Type of data (water erosion, wind erosion, snow melt erosion, tillage erosion)
• Available data for particular regions
• Methodologies
• Accessibility of the data
